Award for Research Project on Energy and the Labor Market
30. September 2024
The Swiss Federal Office of Energy has awarded a two-year research project to a consortium led by the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons (FHGR). The project, titled "Energy and Jobs," focuses on examining the impact of the energy transition and the digitalization of energy systems on the Swiss labor market.
The ongoing energy transition and the digitalization of energy systems are profoundly transforming the economy. These developments are not only affecting the tasks and required skills across various professions but are also leading to changes in job demands and volumes. To address these challenges, adaptations in workforce qualifications are essential.
The project aims to assess the impact on the Swiss labor market in the energy and construction sectors through econometric analyses, expert workshops, and company surveys. The goal is to develop practical recommendations for education and training that align with the evolving requirements of the energy transition.
The collaborative approach of the project, involving universities, universities of applied sciences, and representatives from vocational education, ensures that the research findings address the real-world challenges faced by the industry. This will help create measures that support the adaptation and development of the workforce in line with the energy transition.
The following members from FHGR participate in the project: Peter Moser (Project Lead), Adhurim Haxhimusa, Ann-Katrin Kienle, Frank Bau, and Juliane Streitberg. Additionally, Michael Siegenthaler from the KOF Swiss Economic Institute at ETH Zurich, Norbert Büchel from EIT.swiss, and Nadja Germann from the Association of Swiss Electricity Companies (VSE) are contributing to the project.
