We investigate how data and documents can be managed productively in digital form. To this end, we conduct research into which formats are best suited for the provision and storage of data and documents, how they can be described using which metadata and how they should be linked with one another – in a manner that creates added value. Data and documents are always managed with a view to their designated use. Both the institutional environment and temporal perspectives influence the solutions to be developed.
