Meike Stöhr studied physics and mathematics at the University of Stuttgart where she graduated with a thesis about "Lasereigenschaften und deren Anwendungen". Afterwards, she joined the group of Prof. Möller at the University of Essen, where she examined organic molecules on metallic surfaces with scanning tunneling microscopy under ultrahigh vacuum conditions and received her Ph.D. degree with a thesis entitled "Homogeneous and heterogeneous molecular assemblies". In 2002, she joined the group of Dr. B.A. Hermann at the University of Basel as a Postdoc. In 2008 she finished her Habilitation in the group of Prof. Güntherodt at the University of Basel. In 2010 she took up an assistant professor position at the Zernike Insitute for Advanced Materials at the University of Groningen where she was promoted to associate professor in 2015 and to full professor in 2018. In 2021 she moved to the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons and took up a position as lecturer for mathematics and physics. At the University of Groningen she is still honorary professor and heads the surface science research group (self-assembly.eu).
